Help give a manufacturer of prosthetics and orthotics (artificial limbs) the space it needs to serve its quickly growing customer base. At the same time, give the company a memorable image so that patients can locate the facility more easily amidst the visual clutter of a busy urban strip. Solve the complex challenge of unifying two buildings from different periods with completely different architectural styles.
As seamlessly as possible, join the existing 1960s style office building with an adjacent 1920s house and in-fill a stepped addition between the two. Combine elements from the office building with those of the brick house to create a unified whole, covering both with a synthetic stucco finish to further integrate the two. Finally, add a new addition to the back to serve as a manufacturing facility—incorporating the new, blended look of course. A tough assignment, but you wouldn't know it from the end result: It looks like it's been there all along.
