The Day the Home Was Revealed!

Landscape crews worked through the night using Bobcats and backhoes to transform the yard from basically a large dirt pit and heavy construction site to a beautiful and welcoming lawn, complete with shrubs, new trees and even flower beds!

Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, volunteers and workers rushed about the home and site, helping with the last minute details, helping to hang artwork, clean up the home and the site, and even last minute touch-ups to the paint!

And then, just as it was all coming to a close, groups of friends, family members, supporters and spectators began to arrive on the scene. Few could believe that in just one week's time, now standing was an entirely completed, single family home to be presented to the Crawford-Smith family in just hours.

And, of course, it began to snow! Many of the workers joked that it was probably appropriate that it was snowing, "it snowed at the start of the week, snowed again during crucial times in the build, and so, why shouldn't it be snowing at the end?"

When the limo pulled up and Carol and her sons got out to stand in front of the bus that was blocking the home, the crowd was anxious with excitement for her to see her new home. And, as the crowd screamed "Move That Bus" the bus pulled away and there stood the new home, right before Carol's eyes! She appeared overwhelmed with joy and emotion, as did her two sons, who were in absolute awe of what they saw.

Designer Preston scooped up Carol and with Team Leader Ty Pennington, they escorted Carol and her sons into her new home for a tour. Many are eager to see what the final interior designs look like, but for most, that is a secret that will be kept until the episode airs later this winter on ABC (Sunday nights at 8 p.m.)

For those of us that were so close to this project, it hardly feels like it has ended. We are wroughtwith exhaustion but also filled with a true sense of pride and accomplishment. There were some who worked 36 hours shifts, others who slept two hours a night, and some who can claim they hardly slept at all. But, when all is said and done, there is no doubt that this effort was more than worth it and most would say they'd absolutely do it again!
