This beautiful 1930's Federal-style home in an upscale Roanoke neighborhood was struck by lightning during a severe storm. The chimney was blow apart by the strike and the slate roof and cooper flashing all had to be replaced and rebuilt. The roof caught fire and the home sustained substantial fire, smoke and water damage on all four floors. The family was relocated to a nearby condo during the duration of the project.
Building Specialists was charged with complete stabilization, demolition and reconstruction from attic to basement. Due to the age and historic detail in the home, it proved to be a complicated restoration and renovation project. The highly detailed dentil moldings, Chippendale railings and trim details were reconstructed to original perfection, all meeting today's building codes. Eighty percent of the plaster on each floor had to be removed and replaced. Hardwood floors were removed and restored.
