ABC Extreme Home Makeover

Situation:

Because of their reputation for quality construction and community commitment, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition contacted Building Specialists to give Carol Crawford-Smith one of the best gifts she has ever received; a new house. Despite knowing that this project was under strict time constraints and was to be performed without compensation, Building Specialists did not hesitate to volunteer their services. Building Specialists designers teamed up with Virginia Tech to create a schematic house design overnight and fully develop the details within three weeks. In the meantime, the BSI preconstruction team organized a group of subcontractors and vendors and ordered panelized walls, trusses, doors, windows, and every other building product needed to construct a house from the ground up. The twist was that the materials were needed within two weeks and the house had to be constructed in under five days. Building Specialists, over 300 subcontractors, and more than 4,000 volunteers endured frigid temperatures, ice storms, and snow to construct a house for the Crawford-Smith family. Despite delays, the team pulled together and finished the project just in time for the family to come home.
