Trinity United Methodist Church

Historic church lightning, fire, water, and smoke damage repair in Roanoke, VA.

Situation:

In May of 2007, Roanoke experienced a severe wind storm that caused power outages and downed trees. In downtown Roanoke, historic Trinity United Methodist Church caught fire as high winds blew off portions of the roof that severed the main electrical lines running into the structure. Quick response by neighbors and the fire department resulted in the fire quickly being contained, however not without damages. There was extensive fire damage to the breezeway passage that connects the main church to the educational area of the building. The sanctuary and administration building also sustained water and smoke damage.

Solution:

Building Specialists, Inc. (BSI) was on the site within hours of the owner’s approval with roof tarps and electricians to provide temporary power to the condemned building. BSI immediately worked on obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy for a wing of the structure where temporary services could be held and space for their Coffee House ministry to continue. Work included a new roof, rebuilding a chimney and exterior brick wall, new flooring, and custom windows to match historic regulations.

Completed: 2007
