Mill Mountain Visitor Center

County Construction In Roanoke, VA.

Situation:

The City of Roanoke’s Department of Parks and Recreation had a great idea: to welcome and educate visitors to the Roanoke Valley when they took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway or visited the famous Mill Mountain Star.

Solution:

Construct a visitors center and picnic shelter at Mill Mountain Park. The 2,100-square-foot building features a dramatic picture window with a beautiful view and a covered porch that overlooks the valley. Built of steel, stone, and heavy wood timbers to reflect the wooded mountain location, the structure houses appropriate exhibits of native flora, fauna, and geology.
