Entwistle/Olsen Residence

Basement In-Law Apartment Remodel in Roanoke County, VA.

Situation:

J. and Cheryl Entwistle moved their family to Roanoke from Jacksonville, Florida and purchased a home in the Wellington neighborhood of South Roanoke in 2019. The home needed little work other than the basement which, Cheryl hoped, to create a home for her parents. The Entwistle’s have a large family and wanted to turn their extensive basement area into a comfortable modern apartment for her father, Bill Olsen and mother, Evelyn Olsen.

Solution:

Building Specialists brought in Hughes Associates for this team build and began the process of constructing a lovely one bedroom with a large open kitchen, dining and living room space for the couple. The space was an open canvas and BSI, along with Hughes’ Architectural Designer, Earle Shumate made the most of it. Fortunately, the basement was a walk out allowing almost every room large windows and wonderful light plus a view of the expansive back yard and mountain beyond. The project included a full kitchen with Quartz counter tops, an island that seats six, sliding barn doors, laundry area, walk-in shower, an office/study and walk-in closet.
